Retouching (mornings):
Introduction to the technique of retouching/ varnishing work within the framework of string instrument restoration. Based on the retouching system developed in England, we will work with pigments fixed with retouching varnish. The goal of the project is to engage in a process of continuous improvement. Mastering the technique of polishing (applying and removing varnish) also plays an important role and will be practiced.
Crack repair (afternoon):
In the context of string instrument restoration, reliable gluing of cracks is of central importance. We will examine various systems for crack repair. The goal of the course is to develop a systematic approach to the workflow.
All participants are asked to bring suitable, personal instruments for practical work.
