This MA is also suitable for postgraduate students from various technical degrees such as media technology, electrical engineering, acoustics, audio engineering or mechanical engineering.

Our Master’s programme combines musical acoustics with modern technology through the use and analysis of lightweight design, alternative materials and reverse engineering technology.  Students will also examine business models for small and medium sized companies as well as the methodology of academic research and dissertation writing.

Alongside the compulsory modules, the following options are offered: acoustic sound technology; specialised restoration techniques; historical instrument making including the technologies used.

Our Master’s degree is divided into two semesters. Courses and lectures are the main focus of the first semester and take place in Markneukirchen and Zwickau. The second semester is primarily dedicated to the Master’s thesis and may be completed off campus. Students enrolled in a seven-semester Bachelor’s degree program will have the option of taking one preparatory semester to acquire the necessary ECTS credits for admission to the Master’s programme.

Our graduates are prepared for leading management positions in musical instrument businesses. They are also skilled at planning and implementing research projects, as well as designing products and then initiating, coordinating and organizing their production. Other options include careers in research and development in companies, institutes and other organizations.
