Road traffic is an important factor for the world’s economy. There is increasingly a lack of space for expanding our roads. Intelligent transport systems are necessary to keep the traffic flowing. There is a need for big data exchange: communication between infrastructure and driver, between infrastructure and vehicle, and also between vehicles themselves. However, intelligent highway designs and accurate assessments of the traffic infrastructures are required before this can happen and autonomous driving can be realized.
The acceptance of road planning also plays an important role for the making these plans reality. More and more international road planning projects require experts, who are able to speak foreign languages. With our integrated international double degree programme Road Traffic Engineering, we want to educate and train engineers who can design and operate the road transport systems of the future.
All obligatory courses and most of the elective courses are held in English. In certain cases elective courses in German can be replaced by courses in English. In the first 3 semesters students have lectures, practical work and projects in Road Traffic Engineering, where the focus is on intelligent road transport systems, traffic flow optimization, interaction vehicle-road and vehicle-vehicle, planning and designing road traffic facilities, traffic simulation, language knowledge and intercultural competence.
The Masters Project is undertaken in the the 4th semester. Students should work on a Masters thesis and carry out research in a scientific study, which can be done either at home or abroad, primarily in cooperation with a company or entity (turnaround: 18 weeks). Students will have access to the university laboratories.
