Ideally situated in the “music corner” of the Vogtland and about 60 km away from Zwickau, Markneukirchen has 6.200 inhabitants and has always been a centre of musical instrument making, especially for orchestra instruments. The first German violin makers‘ guild established in 1677 by Bohemian expellees was the basis of an industrial branch at its height in the 19th century. Additionally, the Museum of Musical Instruments and the Department of Musical Instrument Making at West Saxon University feature the typical profile of the town.
